How Sea Street Began | The Story Behind Our Australian Fashion Brand
Every brand has a beginning. Ours started with a stack of plain white T-shirts.
Before founding Sea Street, I spent years working as a graphic and textile designer for some of Australia's biggest fashion brands. While I loved the experience and learnt so much about the fashion industry, I always dreamed of creating artwork in my own style. I wanted the freedom to illustrate the things I genuinely loved including travel, tropical destinations, vintage souvenirs, sailing clubs, nostalgic graphics and the feeling of always being on holiday.
That opportunity came unexpectedly when a friend gave me a stack of plain white T-shirts.
I couldn't stop thinking about the possibilities. I began creating hand-drawn illustrations and printed a small run of graphic T-shirts featuring my original artwork. I put them online, hoping a few people might like them.
Instead, they sold out in one day.
I printed a second batch.
They sold out just as quickly.
Seeing people connect with my illustrations gave me the confidence to keep creating. I continued designing more artwork, building a small community around my prints and learning what people loved.
About six months later, everything changed.
A major Australian retailer discovered my designs and encouraged me to create a fashion brand rather than simply selling printed T-shirts. Around the same time, my husband and I were both made redundant from our jobs within weeks of each other.
Looking back, it felt like perfect timing.
Instead of searching for another job, we decided to back ourselves and build something of our own.
That's how Sea Street was born.
Today, Sea Street is an Australian artist-led fashion brand built around original hand-drawn artwork and limited-edition collections. Every design begins as an illustration before becoming wearable art inspired by travel, nostalgia and the places that make you feel most alive.
We're proud to do things differently. We release small collections, create timeless pieces designed to be loved for years and stay true to the creative vision that inspired the brand from day one.
What started with a stack of plain white T-shirts has grown into a community of people who love original art, thoughtful design and clothing that captures the feeling of being on holiday.
